SEXUAL HEALING BY MARVIN GAYE


 Taken from his final and most successful album ‘Midnight Love’ lead single sexual healing was the record that put Marvin gaye back on top. It was released in 1982.  

The singer was born on 2nd April, 1939 in washington DC in the US.  He was a singer, song writer and record producer that shaped the sound of motown in the 1960’s.


The music video  had a mellow and funk vibe to it and opened the flood gates for more artist to follow.  


The video is very much of its time smoky club, female doctors, backup singers, punk hair dos and beautiful voices. The song talks about finding spiritual and mental healing from ones lover against the backdrop of a medley of lush reggae, funk and post- disco instrumentation. 


 In the 1983 Grammy awards  the song won the best R&B instrumentation performance,  in 1986 to 1989 the song also won R&B orchestra for group or soloist and in 1990 and 1993 it won the best instrumental performance, the Grammy award in 1983 is the 25th one.  He won favourite soul singer in American music award (AMA) 1983.

He suffered severe depression, drug addiction, 2 divorces,  paranoia tax scandals at a time. He died on the 1st of April 1984 by  a gun shot by his father.
